I'm excited to tell you about a new newsletter we have launched. It's titled THE CIVIL WAR and, well, you can guess the subject matter. We chose this subject to start with because that group is the largest one on Passport to History. We brilliantly deduced that meant that this is the subject in which most of our members have a common interest. We hope to launch other subject newsletters later as other areas of historic interest grow.
The new newsletter is an HTML newsletter (meaning it includes images and links). We try to keep it fairly short. In this issue, we focused on Fort Donelson. We're not sure at this point if all newsletters will focus on one subject, but it worked out this time. We have a quick overview of what happened in the capture of Fort Donelson in February 1862 when General U.S. Grant led the Union forces who captured the fort (and a bunch of prisoners) from the Confederates, opeing Tennessee to further invasion. We also include a highlight of a photo member Tim Smith contributed to the Passport site, a link to information on visiting the historic site from Pastigo.com and a reprint of the Harper's Weekly story of the fall of Fort Donelson printed in March 1862.
The initial issue was sent only to the folks in the Civil War group, however, if you would like to receive the newsletter, just sign up on the Passport to History front page. We'll probably be sending new ones about once a week or so.
Have a great week and remember, history is too important to leave in the past!
