John Adams... hmm, no. I don't have HBO. :-( But it's now out on DVD and I'm thinking of getting it. I've heard it was good, but what did you think?
I love the Then and Now books. I've seen the overlay ones (which I really like), but I've reserved my spending for the US ones - especially cities I've visited. I've got books for:
Texas
San Antonio
Austin
Los Angeles
Nashville
Chattanooga
Dallas
(I think I've got a few others, but which ones escape me right now.)
Ah, yes. Hunstville Prison. I attended the rodeo there several times. Great fun!
What a great point of view you have on historic sites. We do like our stuff here in the states to always be shiny & new. One of the things I want to eventually do is deliver location-based content to handheld devices so people can get a much better impression of a historic site. They can look up info on the site instantly and even access "then & now" images to get a better feel for how the site looked at whatever time and how it's changed.
Hey! You're in Arlington! (Hopefully not behind the bars in the photo.) I used to live in Richardson for a couple of years and Garland for a year. I'm a Texas boy displaced in Tennessee. :-)
I had a strong interest in WWII when I was a teenager. Always also had an interest in the Old West. I've also developed an interest in the American Revolution and a strong passion for the Civil War. (Don't read too much into the apparent violence theme.)
I'm always fascinated when I can visit historic sites and walk, see and touch the same things historic figured did many years ago.
Feel free to send me any suggestions for things you would like to see us do here on the site. I really want it to engage people.
Hello, AlexTheHunn!! Welcome! Thanks for joining and I hope you feel free to help jumpstart this community. I see you're a fan of 18th century history. Any particular period, such as Colonial America or the American Revolution?

This back and forth makes me think I should install the forum function. What do you think?
