Travel Guides? What Do You Like?

Over the past couple of years as I've been adding listings to the Pastigo.com historic sites database, I've sort of begun collecting history-related travel guides, including the CWPT's Civil War Sites, David Eicher's Civil War Battlefields: A Touring Guide, Guide to Civil War Nashville, and
A Guide to New Jersey's Revolutionary War Trail for Families and History Buffs by Mark Di Ionno. Some I love and some are just OK. But I've started wondering what travel guides you use and what you like best about them.

Never even looked at one Darrin! I will at the next book store, though.
Personally, I have a wish list of places I would love to go to, due to what I like to read about. Does anybody else just see history and not modern day when they travel or is it just me?
Ever since I was a kid, each time I would go to New York city, I would see this 3D effects movie of the "Battle of NEW YORK" in my head. I practically get in a car accident! Where the Brooklyn Bridge is (historical in its own right) is where GW got his troops away from the British by leaving the campfires going and skipping out over night. I always thought it was funny that The GWB is named GWB, not the Brooklyn Bridge, he crossed the Hudson up at White Plains! I so badly want to go to Quebec and the Plains of Abraham (tried to go there for my 10th wedding anniversary, but the wife weighed in for Cape May [which netted me President Lincoln and Phillip Sosa (don't think thats spelled correctly?) at the Congress Hall Hotel & WWII battery installation on the beach!).
We went to the beach about 4 weeks ago @ Sandy Hook. At the end of the day before we headed home I took my son (not kicking and screaming surprisingly!) to the Fort Hancock museum and Light house. (unplanned so no pictures! DAMN! hahaha) http://www.nps.gov/gate/historyculture/index.htm
I try to save my money for history books, and GAS. Then, I just research the place via the internet. For instance they had a re-enactment @ Fortress Louisburg on Cape Breton island last weekend but google maps said it would be 1000miles one way! A bit much for one weekend on the bike!

I would like to go Europe countries and I want to know that how is Spain trip? Can you know about Spanish airlines? I think flug teneriffa is best option for that. I want some comfortable airline and also want good hotel there.
